The celebration will include a hot dog lunch and your favorite frozen treat courtesy of the Port of Everett. The family event also includes your furry friends on a leash with a treat for them too. No RSVP is necessary.

The Bay Wood Nature Trail is located at 200 West Marine View Drive in Everett. The site was officially the Bay Wood factory and, in partnership with the Washington State Department of Ecology, has been rehabilitated with comprehensive shoreline restoration.

In September 2020, the Port of Everett Commission awarded a nearly $1.54 million contract to Strider Construction to complete shoreline cleanup and habitat restoration at the site of the former Bay Mill. Wood. The project was originally scheduled for completion in the spring of 2021, but the pandemic has slowed progress so far.

In a statement from the Port of Everett in September 2020, Ecology’s head office cleaning section manager said, “This is a great project for the environment and the economy. Not only does this restore habitat in the Snohomish River estuary for salmon and shorebirds, but it also creates development and jobs for the local economy.

The waterfront site sat vacant for almost 30 years. The project involved approximately 300 direct jobs and nearly 1,000 indirect jobs, as well as returning the site to the public and tax authorities.

The nature trail includes a 9-foot-wide continuous trail along the entire shoreline frontage, as well as a viewpoint that overlooks new shoreline habitat and Port Gardner Day. Port Commissioner David Simpson said in 2020: “This project represents the port’s triple bottom line, delivering economic, environmental and community benefits.

You are invited to come and celebrate the inauguration of this new nature trail and see what restoration has occurred that you can now enjoy. Join the party starting at noon on Monday, July 25eat 200 West Marine View Drive in Everett.
