Far East, Arctic Development Corporation to assist Nornickel in ecological and tourism projects – Business & Economy


ST. PETERSBURG, December 3. / TASS /. The Far East and Arctic Development Corporation will help the Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) to implement investment projects aimed at developing tourism and improving ecological conditions. The parties signed a cooperation agreement in the form of Arctic: Present and Future in St. Petersburg, the TASS correspondent reported on Thursday.

“In our opinion, this is a key agreement in regional policies. It covers virtually all aspects of the company’s work. The Company, having a great experience in the implementation of projects, will assist us in the implementation of investments, first of all ecological, projects. This will also help to provide highly qualified personnel for the business enterprises. Other directions are the development of renewable energy sources and, certainly, tourism projects, ”Nornickel vice-president Andrei Grachev told reporters after the signing ceremony of the agreement.

According to him, the company’s investment program provides for investments in various projects amounting to $ 30 billion, of which $ 6 billion is planned for green projects.

The deputy general manager of the Company, Nikolai Zapryagayev, in turn highlighted the existing cooperation with the company in the development of tourism in the Kamchatka Peninsula and in the Murmansk region. In addition, together with the non-governmental organization Our Arctic, Nornickel and the Company worked on the Arctic Calling human resources project, where they will review over 1,000 applications for jobs with an arctic resident – the polar division of Nornickel.

The 11th Arctic International Forum: Present and Future will continue in St. Petersburg until December 4. The program, which includes 52 discussion sites, two plenary sessions and panel discussions, will focus on arctic ecology, the development of infrastructure transport along the Sea Route, and other topics.
