The boss of the water sports center retaliates
THE founder of a water sports center in Caversham has responded to claims it poses a threat to wildlife.
Cosmonaut Leisure opened Caversham Lakes, off Henley Road, in August and is now seeking retrospective planning permission from the South Oxfordshire District Council for the North Lake to be used for sport and recreation.
Eye and Dunsden Parish Council opposed due to concerns about wildlife and road safety.
He said the company had shown “little regard” for the planning conditions and that the center would pose a threat to the region’s ecology.
But Martyn Edwards, founder and chef of Caversham Lakes, says special attention has been paid to protecting wildlife.
In a letter to this week Henley Standard, he says, âI have been aware of the sensitive nature of the site and have been for many years.
âExtensive investigations and reports have been commissioned in accordance with the requirements of the district and county councils, with which I continue to work positively.
“We continue to engage and work towards a common goal with those who wish to have constructive involvement.”
The Environment Agency says the area could have significant ecological value and objected on the basis of insufficient information about the flooding.
