The Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone will see its amount of carbon emissions reduced by more than 20 percent by 2025 compared to 2020, according to its peak master plan. of carbon published recently. The area will implement 25 measures in this regard.

The area, which covers 2,413 square kilometers, includes Qingpu County in Shanghai, Wujiang County in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province and Jiashan County in Zhejiang Province.

By 2025, the energy intensity of the area will be reduced by 15% compared to 2020.

Zero-carbon growth is the goal by 2030 with carbon-neutral technologies widely applied by then, according to the blueprint.

The area will control energy consumption and optimize the energy structure by developing the green energy sector. It plans to install 1,600 megawatts of new photovoltaic installations by 2025.

A low-carbon building system will be in place by 2025 with the zone advocating green design, construction, materials and dismantling processes.

The research, development and application of green and low-carbon technologies in construction will be accelerated through new technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence.

A green and smart transport system, including new energy buses, will be built in the area.

By next year, more than 75 percent of buses in the area will be new energy buses, and that figure will reach 90 percent by 2025, according to the master plan.

Meanwhile, environmental sanitation efforts will be strengthened based on the master plan.

By 2025, the area’s forest cover should reach 10% and the waste sorting performance of more than 95% of the residential complexes should be up to standard.

Credit, investment, bond, insurance and green fund products and tools will be cultivated.

Two to three national-level green and low-carbon research institutes will be established in the area by 2025, and green technology demonstration will be implemented in the fields of weather change, ecological agriculture, improvement of the environment and ecological protection and remediation.

A green manufacturing system supported by green product design, low-carbon factories, green industrial parks and green supply chains will also be developed.
